A team of researchers from Victoria’s La Trobe University, along with community volunteers, discovered the whipbird after an extensive 30-day field survey.

Presumed extinct after catastrophic wildfires across South Australia’s Murray Mallee in 2014, the new discovery will help inform future management of the species and protection of its habitat.
