First Aboriginal Park rangers start work

The first of 15 Aboriginal rangers have begun their new positions within the South Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Making up some of the 15 new positions available, the rangers will be responsible for the maintenance and presentation of park facilities across the Fleurieu Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Outback, Far West and Lower Limestone Coast areas.

This includes fire and emergency work and collaborating with park neighbours, conservation partners, volunteers and Aboriginal communities.

The State Government is committed to increasing Aboriginal management of natural environments and providing a much richer experience for people visiting South Australia’s National Parks.
