Now's the time to join SA’s defence and space industries

Recent research shows SA’s defence industry is expected to need an additional 10,000 people over the next 10 years, for large scale projects including the nuclear-powered submarines and Hunter Class frigates.

South Australia’s growing space industry will also need an additional 20,000 people by 2030 with jobs available ranging from satellite manufacturing to earth observation and rocket launch.

Defence SA CE Richard Price said the highest priority for South Australia is building its workforce and ensuring people are aware of the opportunities and pathways available.

“A recent survey found that only 44 per cent of respondents knew that you didn’t need to be part of the Defence Force to be part of the defence industry, while only 11 per cent realised that a career in defence could be lifelong,” Mr Price said.

“South Australia is also home to the Australian Space Agency and more than 100 space-related organisations undertaking groundbreaking work.”
