More support for parents through critical early years

The new app, called Early Years SA, is set to become the go-to resource for parents and carers of children aged 0 to 5, for information about their child's health, learning, development and wellbeing.

It provides automated age-specific notifications, tips and access to local services direct to families when they need it most.

Developed by the Government of South Australia, the app is designed to provide parents and carers with the tools and information they will need during the first five years of their child's life.

It is during this period when children's social and emotional, physical, language and cognitive development is at its most rapid.

Lockleys Children's Centre Director Nadia Carruozzo said the Early Years SA app would be "really helpful" for families.

"As a new parent, it can be difficult to know what to expect, what is typical development and where to access trusted information and support," Ms Carruozzo said.

"Having access to an app that provides a reliable source of information and important reminders at any time of the day or night will be really helpful for families."

The Early Years SA app will:

  • Provide automated, age-specific notifications for families to remind them about child health and development checks, immunisations, dental checks and preschool and school enrolment.
  • Provide easier access to information about resources and services available to South Australian families, such as Child and Family Health Services (CaFHS), Parenting SA resources, learning and play activities, family wellbeing and mental health services.
  • Give parents and families practical tips and strategies to engage with children, including information on sleep, nutrition and family life and care.

The Early Years SA app is a complementary tool to the Blue Book, not a digital replacement. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the Blue Book as a trusted and credible information source for South Australian families.

The Department for Education partnered with a range of agencies to create the app, including CaFHS, Parenting SA, Wellbeing SA, Department of Human Services and SA Dental.

The app can be downloaded from Apple and android app stores.
