Disability Services currently supports more than 500 people with disability and employs around 1600 staff who support their clients to lead their best lives at home and in the community.
To acknowledge the service’s hard work in 2023, the Department of Human Services hosted a party at Adelaide Zoo earlier this month, which was enjoyed by about 450 staff, clients and friends.
The event was also an opportunity to celebrate International Day of People with Disability, which was held on Monday 3 December.
Disability Services Director Joe Young said this year’s theme asked everyone to work together to make the world better and fairer for people with disability.
“Our service is here to support South Australians with disability reach their goals and dreams and when we can do that in genuine and meaningful ways, I know that together we are supporting a more inclusive community,” Mr Young said.
Party attendees were also lucky enough to enjoy an impromptu concert from client John, who rarely attends an event without a guitar in his hand.
The Department of Human Services provides support to South Australians with disability through a range of services and funding program, including Supported Independent Living, Allied Health Supports, Disability Aged Care and Transition to Home.
