Early works on the new ambulance Emergency Operations Centre and Adelaide ambulance station, to be built in Mile End South, are expected to start in late March, with the complex scheduled to open in late 2025.

The new 6700sq m centre and 1500sq m station and garage will replace the current ageing Greenhill Rd headquarters site.

Key features of the new Richmond Rd headquarters include 24/7 operations, post-disaster functionality and the State Health Coordination Centre to deliver round-the-clock system wide overview of patient movements and hospital capacity.

It will house 143 personnel responsible for responding to Triple Zero activity - with room to grow in the future.

The new Adelaide ambulance station will be home to an additional 16 paramedics due to begin in July 2024, with another 16 paramedics to join the team in July 2025. The 24-paramedic Ashford crews will also report to the new Adelaide station.

Plans have now been lodged with the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP), with consultation to start soon.

SAAS Acting Chief Executive Officer Paul Lemmer said the designs and submission to SCAP marked an exciting project milestone.

“This will be the largest single project in our Operational Growth Plan, and this milestone is incredibly important,” Mr Lemmer said.

“Constructing a site that prioritises the wellbeing of staff and is fit for purpose for our Emergency Operations Centre teams is extremely important, acknowledging the demanding nature of their roles as they respond to the highest volume of Triple Zero calls in SA.

“Equally the new Adelaide station will help ambulance response times, while providing better care to South Australians and reducing demand on our existing crews.”
