Fringe performers share their must-see shows

Adelaide Fringe performers (L-R) Wundes, Ben from The 60 Four, Libby and Matt from Fashionably Late, Jazida from Smashed, and Paige from Circus of Facts.

After a record-breaking one million ticket sales at last year's event, this year's Adelaide Fringe is shaping up for another bumper year. With a program jampacked with entertainment - from hotly anticipated new shows, family-friendly favourites and much more - it can be hard to decide what to see and do.

To help, we've spoken to five performers and asked them to recommend their favourite show, along with a hidden gem, at this year's Adelaide Fringe, running from 16 February to 17 March.

YOAH. I’m really looking forward to seeing it. It's an amazing circus show at Gluttony that’s coming all the way from Japan. Its Australian debut is at the Fringe, and it looks really cool.

Hidden or underrated gem?

We go all around SA with our show. One of the things I love about that is discovering the hidden coffee gems all around our state and boy do we have some good coffee!

What show do you recommend seeing and why?

Our top picks would have to be either Jennifer Wong's The Sweet and Sour Hour of Power or Bisexual Intellectuals for a good mix of Australian comedy!

Hidden or underrated gem?

Weird or different shows like Nona Mona My First Pearl Necklace and Self Help Yourself with Bill Egan are ones to check out. Get out of your comfort zone and see a weird, unusual or left-of-centre show.

What show do you recommend seeing and why?

Oh, Ten Thousand Hours for sure!  It will be the world premiere of a bunch of incredibly talented and local artists doing things that will simply blow your mind.

Hidden or underrated gem?

The hot donuts for sure (at Gluttony). A perfect ratio of sugar, dough and crispiness – I reckon they are the best in the world.

What show do you recommend seeing and why?

Reuben Kaye - APOCALIPSTIK, I saw his last show and it was great - highly recommend.

Hidden or underrated gem?

The night club Mary's Poppin! It’s the place to be for after-hours fun and a hidden gem to party!

What show do you recommend seeing and why?

Frankie Valentine's A Body at Work for sure. I saw online that this production had its preview at Midsumma Festival, so I’m absolutely pumped and definitely checking out that one.

Hidden or underrated gem?

My favourite spot is actually outside of our amazing hubs in the city. 1910 on Hindley St, a roof-top bar that also has a swimming pool and a stage. It’s always heaps of fun and something different!
