Greater support for students of defence force families

Parents and carers of students attending public high school will soon be able to identify themselves as Australian Defence Force (ADF) families using a new digital enrolment form.

The new process will make it easier for schools to identify children of ADF parents to ensure support services, financial assistance and counselling is available to the student through the Federal Government's Department of Veteran's Affairs Education Schemes.

Defence Kidz Founder Hayley Boswell said the new system would enable better support for these students and their unique needs, particularly during times of parental absence.

"In addition, by identifying the newly enrolled defence children, the teacher has the ability to prepare the other children for their arrival, educate them about defence life and make the transition easier and more comfortable," Ms Boswell said.

The form is currently under development in consultation with schools, parents and relevant stakeholders and will be rolled out in Term 1, 2024.
