The boundary for the new suburb of Southwark has been confirmed, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of the former West End Brewery site.
Bounded by the River Torrens, Port Rd, Stirling St, Anderson St, Cawthorne St and Light Tce, Southwark will also include selected landholdings which expressed a desire for their properties to be included in the new suburb. It will retain the postcode of 5031.
The boundary, pictured below, was decided following extensive community consultation and careful consideration of feedback.
The Southwark suburb is steeped in history, being the first section of suburban land surveyed outside of the City of Adelaide. Colonel William Light built his home ‘Theberton Cottage’ on the site.

ery site into a vibrant mixed-use urban community, with up to 1300 new homes alongside retail, commercial, hospitality and community spaces.
Meanwhile, the master plan for the redevelopment of Port Stanvac in Adelaide's south has been released, marking the next phase in transforming the former oil refinery site into a thriving community hub.
Around 8000 people are expected to be able to live in the new Port Stanvac development, which will be a mix of housing, businesses, community services and open spaces, with the project unlocking 40ha of coastline for public use.
The release of the master plan coincides with approval of the Proposal to Initiate the Port Stanvac Mixed Use Code Amendment that allows planning to proceed on the development site.
The new code amendment seeks to officially unlock the 230ha area, allowing for up to 3600 new residential dwellings, including a mix of apartments, townhouses, aged care, serviced accommodation as well as low density allotments.
Late last year, the State Government, with developer MAB and site owner Exxon Mobil, announced plans to unlock the site for development.
MAB Managing Director Andrew Buxton said the approval of the Code Amendment was a "major step toward delivering our vision for Port Stanvac".
"Our vision is a new community for Adelaide, comprising much needed housing, strategically located employment land and opening community access to the beach and 40ha of coastline," Mr Buxton said.
