The State Theatre Company, State Opera and Country Arts SA will join the ABC to create a vibrant new cultural centre within the heart of the city.
A landmark partnership between the State Government and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation will see the broadcaster move from its current outdated headquarters at Collinswood to the Tapangka development site on Franklin St.
The Hub will be located at the former Adelaide Bus Station site, adjacent to the Adelaide Central Market, as part of the precinct being developed by Renewal SA set to be complete by 2031.
It will feature a state-of-the-art gallery, studios and rehearsal spaces to enable creatives to develop new programs and support collaboration between beloved South Australian arts organisations and the ABC.
The State Government will invest $51 million toward the development to ensure South Aus
tralians have ongoing access to quality theatre, opera and arts programming from across the state for the future.
The new deal follows the State Government’s $12 million investment in a partnership between the ABC and the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) to produce an ongoing pipeline of high-quality television production in our state.
It can be revealed that through this partnership, season three of popular ABC series Austin will be filmed in South Australia, with filming taking place around Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills.
Tapangka will also allow for residential and commercial development, providing even more critical housing supply at a prime location within the CBD.
ABC Managing Director Hugh Marks said that it was a "significant day for the ABC".
"The new home for the ABC Adelaide location is fit for purpose for a modern public broadcaster," Mr Marks said.
"Moving to new state-of-the-art facilities central to the CBD and co-locating with government arts organisations offers enormous benefits to the broader arts community and our staff, audiences, and the creative sector."
