South Australia’s sick and injured native wildlife will benefit from improved veterinary care under a $1 million program to support the volunteer rescue and rehabilitation sector.
Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue (SKER), at Onkaparinga Hills, will receive $600,000 over four years
to help the charity continue their important work, delivering vital care for native wildlife in need.
The volunteer-led organisation has provided free treatment to more than 700 native animals across over 30 species through their on-site veterinary clinic since late 2024.
Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic has been provided $100,000 over four years to support the island’s wildlife carers and deliver critical treatment to native wildlife.
A further $300,000 over four years will boost opportunities for veterinarians across the state to undertake specialised training in wildlife treatment.
Mentoring for veterans | 5 February
Veterans and Defence families across South Australia have the chance to take the next step toward a successful future, with applications now open for the 2026 Veterans SA Career and Business Mentoring Program.
A proven initiative that helps participants turn their skills, experience and ideas into new career and business opportunities, the program connects mentees with experienced South Australian business leaders who provide personalised guidance, practical advice and valuable networks.
Now in its fifth year, the program has supported more than 60 participants to secure employment, grow businesses and expand their professional networks. Applications close 14 February.

New base for Thunderbirds | 4 February
The Adelaide Thunderbirds have moved into their new training base at Adelaide Arena, Findon, while they await the 2028 completion of the new $92 million multi-sport redevelopment at Mile End.
Netball SA also recently moved its administration to Adelaide Arena ahead of the 2026 Hospital Research Foundation Group Premier League which will be played there from this season.
The Thunderbirds will continue to play their Suncorp Super Netball competition games at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, while also having access to training and recovery facilities at the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI).
Netball SA development squads and community programs will also be based out of the Findon site until 2028.
