New online portal helping students find their passion

South Australian high school students can use MyCareerPortal to explore career options.

The new portal will provide high school students with information about growth industries to help them make informed decisions about their post-school pathways.

MyCareerPortal will have:

  • information about key industries, including required VET and higher education pathways and average salaries, including a new virtual job experience hub to better understand different industries
  • easier access to employers to take on work experience opportunities
  • a diagnostic tool to assess personality and learning styles to key careers
  • a new career planning tool to better help students into their desired pathway.

The portal was launched in late May at Le Fevre High School, which is the state’s Maritime STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) specialised school, with year 10, 11 and 12 courses for students in maritime operations, naval architecture and engineering.

Le Fevre High School Principal Kirri Minnican said career information was important to help students make decisions about their future.

“The MyCareerPortal will be a valuable resource for students to explore a range of career options and enables them to be involved in virtual work experience activities, making it accessible for everyone," Ms Minnican said.

“Virtual and interactive career education is both exciting and worthwhile for students when making decisions for their future."

MyCareerPortal will have a focus on promoting careers in defence such as engineers, coders and cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing such as electricians, boilermakers and gas fitters, as well as in-demand fields such as early childcare, construction and education.

It is also available for students outside of school so that they can share their career exploration, discovery and planning activities with their parents and carers.

MyCareerPortal is for South Australian government school students only and is accessed via the Student Pathways website.
