Public housing complex approved for Camden Park

The $30 million, modern SA Housing Trust development, to be built on a 2500sq m site on Anzac Hwy, forms part of the broader renewal of the suburb in Adelaide's southwest.

The development, which will have 48 apartments over six storeys, has been approved by the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP).

The number of car parks has been increased to 60 - one for each apartment plus extra for guests - following community concerns around more street parking.

The project is being delivered in partnership with the Federal Government through its $23.72 million contribution via the Social Housing Accelerator Program. The rest will be funded by the State Government.

The site - which has frequent bus services connecting residents to services and the community - is currently vacant after the old apartments which were no longer fit for purpose were demolished to make way for new homes.

Tenants in the old apartments were relocated to other Trust homes.

The State Government will now tender for a builder for the project, which forms part of the broader renewal of Camden Park, with construction expected to be completed by mid-2027.

The Housing Trust will seek to mitigate the risk of antisocial behaviour when offering properties to potential residents through careful tenant selection.
