A new recruitment ad campaign – featuring a cameo from Police Commissioner Grant Stevens – has been launched to further boost the state’s police force.
South Australia has its full complement of police officers for the first time in nearly a decade, with SA boasting the highest number of sworn police per capita of any state.
The State Government is investing an additional $172 million over six years to further grow the police force to 5000, adding 326 more sworn officers.
This effort is in addition to $29 million invested to recruit an extra 98 Police Security Officers (PSO).
PSOs perform roles currently undertaken by sworn officers and the additional hires enables sworn offi
cers to be redirected back to frontline operations.
This week saw 28 international police officers sworn in to the force, with a further 22 local cadets also being sworn in, taking South Australia’s frontline policing capability to 4674.2 officers.
This follows a massive recruitment drive by SAPOL with the support of the State Government over the past three years.
The new officers are joining SAPOL from the United Kingdom, New Zealand and – for the first time – Canada.
The new ad (pictured right in a behind the scenes image) is part of SAPOL’s refreshed campaign Career Search: Find Where You Belong in Blue, which aims to let more people know about the benefits of a career with SA Police.
The advertisement features more than 70 real police officers with the lead role also being played by a serving SAPOL member.
