Poolgoers are invited to a party to send off the North Adelaide pool (pictured above), which is closing on 31 July 2024 and replaced with a state-of-the-art aquatic centre.

The Last Lap Pool Party will be held on Sunday 28 July 2024 to celebrate five decades of fun, with pool games, food trucks, live music, inflatables and more.

The Adelaide Aquatic Centre - formerly called the Adelaide Swimming Centre - opened in 1969 and used to be an open air, outdoor public swimming pool.

A diving tower and 50m-outdoor lap pool and grandstands were added in 1970, before the centre was enclosed with a roof in 1985.

Millions of children have learnt to swim at the centre in the northern Park Lands at Pardipardinyilla / Denise Norton Park (Park 2), with countless others having used the facility to swim, relax, dive and compete over the years.

The centre is being replaced with a state-of-the-art complex, which will feature extensive indoor and outdoor pool areas, water slides, splash zones and lawned recreation spaces.

Expected to open in the summer of 2025-26, it will also have a gym and fitness facilities, spa-sauna-steam room and improved community change rooms. More than 1000sq m of land will be returned to the Park Lands once the centre is built.

For those who currently use the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, help is available to find alternative swim centres during the closure, including the recently renovated and reopened Thebarton Aquatic Centre.
