An initiative of the South Australian Government, GigCity Adelaide provides fast, reliable and affordable internet connection to the state's innovation precincts and business hubs.

More than 725 businesses across Adelaide, Mount Gambier and Whyalla currently enjoy the benefits of the program, which provides gigabit-speed internet - the fastest internet service available - at an affordable price and with no lock-in contracts.

These tenants, which operate from the state's innovation and business precincts and include startups and universities, enjoy download speeds of one gigabit per second.

Due to expire this month, the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science has renewed its funding agreement with provider SABRENet, meaning the GigCity program will be extended for metropolitan customers until at least June 2026.

GigCity customers in Whyalla and Mount Gambier will continue to be serviced by provider Wide Networks until at least 2027.

Jeremy Coombe, founder and managing director of Apxium based at Lot Fourteen, said GigCity had delivered the internet speed required to fuel his business success.

“It makes a massive difference in terms of workplace engagement when you’re able to provide your team with world-class facilities to make their jobs easier,” Mr Coombe said.

“GigCity’s access and reliability was imperative during our overseas expansion to the US, Canada and UK, which happened to occur right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Consequently, all our travel plans were put on hold, meaning a lot of video conferences and remote product demos.”
