SA Police Road Safety Centres - Adelaide and Millicent

School holiday program | Multiple dates

SA Police is again offering a free road safety school holiday program for children aged 5-8, at its centres in Adelaide and Millicent.  The free holiday program gives participants the chance to learn vital road safety education from a police officer. The two-hour sessions start in the classroom before moving to a mock roadway for practical learning on pedestrian and cycling safety. All equipment is supplied, and bookings are required.

South Australian Museum 

Beehive Hangs I 22-23 April 

Did you know that a 90-year-old bee colony lives at the South Australian Museum? Visit it at the Discovery Centre and created your own bee-themed plant pot to take home and encourage pollination in your own backyard. There will be two sessions - one for children aged 4-7 on April 22 and the other for children aged 8-12 on April 23. Both sessions run from 11am-noon.

Fun with Fossils I 15-16 April

Palaeontologist and artist Riley will be hosting two hands-on workshops exploring fossil specimens from the ocean floor. Attendees will create their own unique fossil creature which will then be case in plaster for children to take home. The first session on April 15 will be for children aged 5-11 and the second workshop on April 16 will be for young people aged 12-17.

Brainy Games I 18-20 April 

This free activity is full of fun and interactive games that are part of the scientific research of the Adelaide University School of Psychology. Children will learn about how we use logic to think to how our brains help us recognise other people and many other topics.

Sensory friendly evening I 24 April

This pay-as-you-can evening session offers a quiet and sensory friendly experience for all visitors, but particularly those who are neurodiverse or have sensory sensitivities, as well as their families, friends and support workers. It will feature toned down screens, lights and sounds around the museum, with less crowds outside of regular hours. Sensory backpacks will also be on offer to use, free of charge. Bookings required, with numbers limited to ensure a quiet environment.

Adelaide Botanic Garden 

Teddy Bears Picnic with the SA Police Band I 14 April

Pack some snacks, grab a low chair and your favourite teddy bear and head to the Adelaide Botanic Garden for a teddy bears picnic. This free event includes entertainment from the South Australian Police Band with free face painting on offer as well. No booking required.

Lung Trees I 12-29 April

This free sound installation of breathing trees invites the audience to listen creatively. Unlike traditional musical forms, sound installations typically have no start or end, which is similar to the way soundscapes occur in nature. The composer, Peter Mcilwain, was a student at the Adelaide Conservatorium and was a part of the trio who created a multi-channel sound installment for the opening of the Bicentennial Conservatory in 1988.

Art Gallery of South Australia

The Studio: Opalescence | Various dates

The Studio at the Art Gallery of South Australia is open daily during the school holidays for a free workshop using oil pastels and paints to create a piece of art inspired by the Opalescene exhibition.

Australian Space Discovery Centre

Space-themed school holiday activities | Various dates

Launch into school holiday fun at the Australia Space Discovery centre with a variety of fun and engaging events to inspire the next generation of space workforce. The centre will also be open for family friendly sessions from 11am to 5pm daily during the school holidays (except public holidays).

South Australian Sports Institute

SASI talent search, Netball SA Stadium | 15 & 22 April

Could you be a world-class athlete who has what it takes to represent Australia at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games? Find out at the upcoming SASI Talent Search sessions for athletes aged 8-19 in diving, cycling, rowing, kayaking, beach volleyball, shooting and archery.

Gardening tools and toys scavenger hunt | Various dates

It's time for the children to put their detective thinking skills to the test and explore the Cornucopia: Garden and Gardening in South Australia exhibition for the hidden toys in this free scavenger hunt. Pick up the clues bookmark on the Fantastic Foliage family table and get exploring!

@Lenswood

Apple picking at Lenswood | Every weekday from 9am-3pm, weekends 9am-4pm 

Head to the Adelaide Hills and enjoy some time outside picking a variety of apples that are in season. There is also a giant sandpit, vintage tractors and mini golf for the little ones to enjoy while parents can enjoy the on-site cafe and farm shop. Entry fee and apple pricing is paid on location.

Rivoli Bay Jetties Junior Fishing Competition

Beachport and Southend jetties | 15-21 April

Know any keen fishers? This free week-long fishing competition is split into three age groups - under 6 years, 7-11 years and 12-17 years - with all anglers in for a chance to win prizes.

Adelaide Zoo

Adelaide Zoo | 23-26 April

The Adelaide Zoo is offering a variety of free school holiday activities from conversations with keepers to free flight birds show and the Nylon Zoo, where children can dress up in costumes and listen to a story in a giant inflatable echidna.

The Valleys Lifestyle Centre

Clare | Various dates

The Valleys is offering a jam-packed schedule of activities including stadium sports, roller skating, pool fun and much more across both weeks of the school holidays. Bookings aren't required for any of the affordable sessions.

Make your own clay chicken | 16 April

Get your craft on and learn how to work with clay to make your very own chicken. Ideal for children aged five and over (with a parent or carer for assistance). Bookings required.

Saber Academy | 17 April

Calling all Star Wars fans! Learn the art of lightsabering and martial arts in this fun and interactive session. Suitable for children aged 6-17, with parents welcome to join in. Bookings essential.

Noarlunga Library

Game On! | 15-19 April

Get the kids out of the house and having fun with oversized board games like Snakes and Ladders, Chess, Connect 4 and more. This event is free and no bookings are required. Simply head along during opening hours to the Teen Space on library's fourth level.

Niipu-niipu Wama (Morton Park), Christie Downs

Inclusive Skateboarding | 15 & 22 April

These drop-in sessions are the perfect space for young people aged 6-18 to have a go at skateboarding in an inclusive and adaptable environment. Skateboards and helmets are provided.
