Success for River Revival vouchers

The first round of the River Revival Voucher scheme injected an estimated $3.1 million into the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong and Riverland visitor economies.

A survey of voucher users found round one of the popular River Revival vouchers had an immediate economic boost for tourism businesses in the river regions, impacted by the once-in-a-century flood last summer.

This includes inspiring visits that would not have occurred otherwise - 71 per cent of those who redeemed a voucher had not intended on taking a trip prior to the program.

Those who redeemed the $200 accommodation vouchers spent an additional $746 on average while in the river regions, generating income for operators of tours and activities, food and beverage, produce, entertainment and more.

Round two of the voucher scheme was launched in June, with anyone who received a voucher in the ballot having until 25 July to make a booking.

Disappointed you missed out in the round two ballot? You're still in with a chance, with a second draw to be held and winners notified on Thursday 27 July. These vouchers will need to be redeemed by Tuesday 22 August.

Tourism operators are now hoping for a strong winter period, with bookings rolling in for River Murray regions. So far for round two,  more than 2200 bookings with over $2 million in value have been made – with houseboat bookings proving a popular choice.

The River Revival Vouchers program is part of the Government of South Australia's $4.6 million River Murray tourism recovery plan, which aims to stimulate visitation and expenditure in the communities hit hard by the once-in-a-century River Murray flood.
