The first sod has been turned on an almost $21 million expansion of Roma Mitchell Secondary College in Adelaide’s inner north.
The development will allow the school to increase its capacity by 180 students and includes the construction of a new two-court gymnasium designed to international standards, change rooms, six classrooms, a first aid room and cafeteria.
It is expected the building work will be finished by the end of this year, ready to welcome new students in Term 1 of next year.
Once completed, the Gepps Cross school will be able to accommodate 2114 students.
Principal Toni Carellas said the sod turning was a “significant milestone in this next phase of expansion at Roma Mitchell Secondary College”.
“The new state-of-the-art facilities will allow us to welcome more students in the future and meet their growing educational needs,” she said.
“The new gymnasium will ensure our students have access to indoor facilities, especially in times of extreme weather conditions.”
