Millions earmarked to improve SA schools

The works will include facility replacements and upgrades, removal of aged buildings, bitumen repairs, heating, ventilation and cooling upgrades, roof replacements.

Some of the schools to receive major upgrades include:

  • Plympton International College - $14 million to replace older buildings with new, modern multi-storey buildings
  • Virginia Primary School and Preschool - $15 million to address capacity pressures and ensure buildings are suitable for population growth
  • Brahma Lodge Primary School, The Pines School, Ingle Farm East Primary School and Hillcrest Primary School - $10.5 million to construct new gymnasiums at each school.

Plympton International College Principal Roy Webb said the funding would ensure the school could welcome even more students in the coming years.

“New, modern learning facilities will enable us to continue delivering a high-quality learning program for our students and we look forward to seeing the work get underway,” Mr Webb said.

Meanwhile, Avenues College was formally opened on Tuesday 6 June.

The opening follows a $9.7 million redevelopment, which saw the amalgamation between Windsor Gardens Secondary College, Gilles Plains Primary School, Windsor Gardens Centre for Hearing Impaired and Gilles Plains Children's Centre.

A new children's centre has also been constructed on the site, in Adelaide's northeastern suburbs.
