A new primary school and preschool will be built on a 5.5ha parcel of land in Mount Barker's south-east.
The new primary school will have an initial capacity for 350 students from reception to year 6, while the co-located preschool will create up to 100 additional places for families.
The site, off Heysen Boulevard and Aston Parade, was selected following detailed assessments to ensure it can meet the long-term needs of the growing community, with existing utilities and services infrastructure helping to fast-track the project's delivery.
Construction is expected to start in 2028, with the new preschool and primary school expected to welcome students from the beginning of the 2030 school year.
The $61.1 million project is part of a broader education investment in Mount Barker, with $200 million being committed to support infrastructure and services in one of the state's fastest-growing regions.
The investment includes a $96 million redevelopment of Mount Barker High School, which will increase capacity by 200 students and deliver modern learning spaces for students and staff.
A new $25.5 million Mount Barker TAFE Trades Workshop will also be built, expanding training opportunities for up to 1200 additional apprentices in electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
Adelaide Hills resident and new mother Emilie Castine said the new school would provide greater choice and accessibility for families.
"Having a new school is a great opportunity for us with our young daughter that’s local, affordable and fits in well with our lifestyle," she said.
Mount Barker District Council Mayor David Leach said the continued investment in education infrastructure reflected the needs of the region.
"It’s reassuring to see education infrastructure continuing to grow alongside our population," Mr Leach said.
"We look forward to seeing this project develop, enabling our young students access to quality education close to home."
