The tail of five former police dogs enjoying retirement

Former Police Dogs Havoc, Judge, Stoic, Indi and Yoyo.

Police dogs Havoc, Judge, Stoic, Indi and Yoyo have each retired in the past year, after enjoying an impressive career with the South Australia Police.

Between them they apprehended 661 offenders and cleared 847 offences. PD Havoc also located 110 property items, worth almost $14,000.

South Australian Police Sergeant Peter Crouch, from the Dog Operations Unit, said the dogs played an important role in police operations.

“Police dogs do a 14-week training course and once they graduate, they are required to maintain monthly training standards and do annual skills tests to ensure they are still capable,” Sergeant Crouch said.

“The job of a dog handler is 24 hours a day, with the dogs becoming part of the family so it’s always difficult to see them retire.”

Havoc, Judge and Stoic will have a rest from their duties of criminal apprehension, property location, missing person location and handler protection.  Indi and Yoyo were part of the drug, firearm and explosive team.

“We thank PD Havoc, PD Judge, PD Stoic, PD Indi and PD Yoyo for their service to the community and know they will have an enjoyable retirement,” Sergeant Crouch said.
