Group training organisations the Motor Trade Association (MTA) and the Master Builders Association (MBA) have agreed to be part of Tonsley Technical College, which is scheduled to open in 2025.
The partnerships with the MTA and MBA will provide career pathways for students when they complete their studies and will also inform the training programs to support success in the workplace.
Students at the college, which will be located in the Tonsley Innovation Precinct, will be able to specialise in four key future industries - engineering/advanced manufacturing, automotive and energy, building and construction, and health and social support.
Master Builders Association of South Australia Chief Executive Officer Will Frogley said technical colleges were "needed more than ever".
“Career opportunities in building and construction are extensive, especially in the trades," Mr Frogley said.
"Tonsley Technical College will be a great place for young South Australians to get started."
He said Master Builders SA estimated nearly 15,000 extra tradies would be needed by 2027 to meet demand.
Motor Trade Association SA/NT Chief Executive Darrell Jacobs said the partnership would further strengthen the organisation's pipeline of apprentices and help alleviate skills shortages.
"With a significant demand for tradespeople across all industries including automotive, the MTA is proud to be providing hands-on learning and practical experience which no ordinary classroom could deliver," Mr Jacobs said.
The Tonsley Technical College will be built in tandem with Flinders University's Factory of the Future.
The State Government is building five technical colleges across South Australia, with the first college at Findon to open in Term 1, 2024.
