Tips to help you stay cyber safe

South Australians are encouraged to take action to secure their online information and devices as part of Cyber Security Awareness Month 2023.

The theme for this year's event, being held throughout October, is 'Be cyber wise, don't compromise'.

There are four weekly topics across the month, to help improve our cyber security knowledge:

Week 1 (October 2-8): Update your devices regularly - Regular updates to devices and software ensure you have the latest security in place.

Week 2 (October 9-15): Turn on multi-factor authentication - This adds another layer of protection to your accounts.

Week 3 (October 16-22): Backup your important files - This helps to safeguard your data from threats and avoid costly data recovery.

Week 4 (October 23-29): Use passphrases and password managers - Passphrases use four or more random words. Don’t compromise your accounts by re-using passwords or passphrases. Consider using a password manager to help you generate or store passphrases.

According to the latest Annual Threat Report, cybercrime incidents are increasing, with one cybercrime reported every seven minutes to the authorities.

The South Australian Government is working in partnership with the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and Local Government Information Technology South Australia (LGITSA) to coordinate Cyber Security Awareness Month.

The ACSC has free resources available, including step-by-step guides, quizzes and advice, to help South Australian individuals and small to medium-sized business stay cyber secure.

Why not even level-up your cyber security further by testing your knowledge with the how cyber secure are you quiz.
