Final hurdle: Year 12 exams now underway

Around 13,000 SACE students have today (November 2) started their final exams, with the main exam period taking place over the next 10 days of term.

Students started with Mathematical Methods and General Mathematics and will end with Geography and Music Studies on Friday November 13. This follows language exams starting last month.

A total 57 Stage 2 SACE subjects are being held across 208 exam sites, including 96 sites in regional South Australia.

About a third of students undertaking their exams have included a VET qualification as part of their SACE – helping build the state’s skilled pipeline and setting up young South Australians for a secure, well-paid job after school.

Examined SACE subjects with the largest number of students in 2026 are:

  • General Mathematics – 4277 students (November 2 exam)
  • Biology – 3192 (November 6)
  • Mathematical Methods – 2924 (November 2)
  • Psychology – 2601 (November 4)

The most popular subject combination this year is Mathematical Methods, Biology, Chemistry and English, with 470 students doing all four subjects.

Modern History recorded the biggest enrolment increase, up 10 per cent to 1058 students in 2026.

SACE Board Chief Executive Michaela Bensley wished every student sitting an exam all the best.

"For many students, these exams represent the final stage of a 13-year schooling journey and a significant milestone in their education," she said.

"Whatever their results, there are many pathways available including employment, vocational training, apprenticeships and further study."

More than 300 SACE coordinators, 2500 markers and 1500 invigilators will help oversee the exams, delivered using a mix of paper, electronic and oral formats.

Students will receive their SACE results on Monday 14 December. The full exam timetable can be found on the SACE website.
