Gather in The Studio to create a time capsule inspired by artist Charlie Sofo featured in the 2026 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Yield Strength. Charlie invites you to write a list of all the things that happened to you today, or this week or year. Remember that all materials and events in the world can tell us something important, even the smallest and seemingly insignificant. Seal your time capsule with a sticker and take it home as a special keepsake-or leave it for others to find, adding to a growing collection of stories and memories.

The Department for Child Protection is hosting its first Touch-a-Truck Day during the school holidays, for children and young people in care and their carers/families. Children will be able to climb aboard trucks and emergency services vehicles, meet the people who drive them, and get up close with some seriously cool vehicles. From fire engines to police cars, cherry pickers and ambulances, there’ll be something to spark every child’s imagination. There will also be food trucks and coffee at the free event, held to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day and National Youth Week. Autism SA is also bringing along its popular Sensory Bus (external site) (external site). It will be held at Club Marion on Sturt Rd, from 10am-2pm. Run by Adelaide University's School of Psychology, this free event gives children the chance to play games covering a wide range of topics, including understanding how to use logic to think, show emotions, recognise other people, and how to use someone’s appearance to make decisions about them.

Tanya Parr from Nature Creative will lead a hands-on workshop in the beautiful Carrick Hills Gardens. Children will be encouraged to study the beauty of autumn leaves, before using oil pastels and watercolour to create their own artworks. This 90-minute workshop is recommended for children aged 5-10 years, and costs $40. While at Carrick Hill, why not explore the 500m Storybook Trail (external site) (external site) which features themed zones inspired by beloved children’s classics including Wind in the Willows, The Hobbit, The Jungle Book and The Secret Garden. The trail is free and is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-4.30pm.

- The Riddle of Washpool Gully (external site) (external site): Far beyond the outskirts of the big city, near a tiny town that nearly everyone forgot, lay a dry creek bed of no special significance. Once upon a time it had been called Washpool Gully. But the world had moved on from insignificant things, and no one had time for dry creek beds. Except in Washpool Gully something was stirring. Shaken by the rumble of engines and darkening of the sky, something long asleep had decided to wake up.
- Re:PLAY (external site) (external site): Join in the fun at Adelaide Festival Centre’s Artspace for a series of vibrant, hands-on workshops designed for families to explore creativity through recycled and repurposed materials. Led by prominent South Australian artists, these school holiday sessions invite children and their caregivers to dive into the world of sustainable art-making—transforming everyday items into imaginative masterpieces.
- Visual Theatre Making and Storytelling (external site) (external site): Facilitated by Dead Puppet Society’s Helen Stephen, this hands-on workshop offers an entrance into the world of visual theatre. Participants will learn fundamental skills they'll see on stage in The Riddle of Washpool Gully. They will be mentored through the making and staging of scenes using ensemble performance techniques, hand-operated lighting, and exquisite worldbuilding tools.

In this session, Glenda brings her moving story of hope and kindness to life, showing how the right words can warm a page, lift a moment, and help a story shine. Young listeners will discover how she chooses words that feel soft, surprising, and full of possibility - and then have a chance to create their own. Suitable for children 8 to 12 years of age

- Curiosity Lab: Build-a-Bug (external site) (external site): This 90-minute workshop, let by the Museum's very own entomologist Dr Shasta Henry, will teach children the basics of insect anatomy. They will also design and build their own insect friend to take home and go on an insect hunt. This workshop is recommended for children aged 6-10 years. Parental supervision is required and bookings are essential. To be held on Tuesday 21 April.
- Curiosity Lab: Intro to Insect Pinning (external site) (external site): Dr Shasta Henry will also host this workshop, for children aged 10-15 years, offering a crash course in insect identification. Participants will then head back to the classroom to examine a scientific sample of insects and learn the art of insect setting. Each participant will get to take home their pinned insect in a small display box. Parental supervision is optional and bookings are essential. To be held on Thursday 23 April.
SA Police Road Safety Centres (external site) (external site)

SA Police is again offering a free road safety school holiday program for children at its centres in Adelaide and Millicent. The free program gives participants the chance to learn vital road safety education from a police officer. The two-hour sessions start in the classroom before moving to a mock roadway for practical learning on pedestrian and cycling safety. Bookings are required.

Over three electrifying days, teens aged 13-18 are welcomed to dive into a collaborative, inside-out theatre experience that puts their creative instincts front and center. No rigid rules.
