Adelaide one of the world's most liveable cities

If you call Adelaide home, no doubt you already know - it's one of the best places in the world to live.

But now you don't have to just take the locals' word for it, because according to The Economist’s 2023 Global Liveability Index, it's now the world's 12th most liveable city.

The Economist liveability survey assessed which cities around the world provide the best or worst living conditions, taking into consideration factors including health care, education, culture, stability and environment.

In one of the biggest jumps in ranking, Adelaide's position improved by 19 places from 30th last year, following a difficult 2021.

Experts at The Economist attribute a shift back towards normality after the Covid-19 pandemic as one of the biggest drivers of changes in the global liveability rankings.

Adelaide took equal 12th place with Perth, while Melbourne and Sydney were in third and fourth places respectively.

Austria's capital Vienna took out the top spot for a second consecutive year, followed closely by Copenhagen, in second place.
