It’s official – Victor Harbor is South Australia’s Top Tourism Town for 2024.
In news that will come as no shock to those who live and play in and around the Fleurieu Peninsula’s unofficial capital, the Tourism Industry Council of South Australia (TICSA) declared Victor Harbor to be “a place that stirs a profound personal connection and gently draws you in”.
“People visit to be immersed,” TICSA wrote when announcing this year’s SA Top Tourism Town Awards winners.
“To catch a glimpse of wildlife from shore. To relive childhood summers.
“What they feel – rejuvenation, adventure, reflection – forever connects them to this wondrously one-of-a-kind place where the hum of community meets the stillness of the sea.”
Other winners in the annual awards included the outback opal-mining centre of Coober Pedy, which took out the 2024 Small Tourism Town Award, and Burra in the Mid-North, which won 2024 Tiny Tourism Town & People’s Choice.
TICSA described Coober Pedy as “indisputably … one of the world’s most extraordinary gems”.
“Hidden deep within the South Australian outback, its lunar-like terrain beckons explorers to a world of unparalleled adventure.
“Delve into the underground wonders, where churches and homes lie carved into the earth, and uncover the riches of opal mining.
“But tread lightly with all the h
oles in the floor.”
Burra, a town with a rich mining history that played a key role in the early days of South Australia, was labelled a traveller’s paradise, where trails weave through the township, revealing secrets of its Cornish mining past”.
“Savour local flavours, marvel at heritage architecture, and embrace the warmth of community.”
The Tourism Town awards are just some of many handed out by TICSA to outstanding tourism ventures in the state.
