Taseef Farook named International Student of the Year

Governor of South Australia the Honourable Frances Adamson AC and StudyAdelaide chair Sean Keenihan present Adelaide University PhD researcher Taseef Farook with his 2023 International Student of the Year Award.

Adelaide University PhD researcher Taseef Farook has been named the StudyAdelaide 2023 International Student of the Year for his work in the world of predictive modelling and artificial intelligence in dentistry.

Taseef, from Bangladesh, has won significant funding to support his work, but his contributions go beyond the research realm with wide-ranging involvement in his university community.

As a volunteer, Taseef contributes as a peer mentor, academic integrity ambassador and emcee of Children’s University events.

Taseef also helps dental students develop their skills and knowledge in his roles as a tutor and research assistant. All this while earnestly pursuing his research, winning awards and publishing journal papers along the way.

It’s a demanding schedule, but Taseef said he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I’m honoured to be part of this vibrant community that strives to help one another make a lasting impact,” he said.

But for Taseef, it’s not about awards and accolades. His research was inspired when, while assisting a child with facial prosthetics, he realised the impact he could have on the world.

“When he flashed me a radiant smile, I knew I’d found my calling,” he said.

Taseef also won the 2023 Academic Excellence: Postgraduate (Research) Award.
