The project - on track to finish later this year - will build trails that wind through Mount Remarkable National Park and adjacent land, opening up new and previously unseen parts of the park.

The $1.8 million trail will also include the spectacular Black Range and loop back towards Melrose beneath the Gibraltar Rock formations.

The Southern Flinders is a hugely popular mountain bike location, enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.
