New campaign encouraging South Aussies to buy local

The 'Buy SA. For SA.' campaign aims to get consumers to switch at least $1 in every $20 of their spending away from interstate and overseas products to local goods.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, South Australians spend around $10 billion each year in supermarkets and grocery stores.

Switching just five per cent of that spend to local products would provide hundreds of millions of dollars in additional support for South Australian producers and businesses.

The campaign will make it easier for shoppers to find and identify South Australian brands, by encouraging them to look for the State logo on products or 'Buy SA. For SA.' tickets on supermarket shelves.

'Buy SA. For SA.' is expected to be supported by major supermarkets and retailers across 250 stores, including close to 100 Foodland and 48 Drakes outlets, all seven Tony & Mark’s stores, as well as ALDI and Coles stores.

Tony & Mark's Director Frank Capobianco said the campaign would help their customers easily identify local products.

"We’re excited to be involved in this buy local campaign that supports and benefits South Australian producers and businesses like us," Mr Capobianco said.

"Customers can now come into our stores and easily see which products are local by looking for the tags with the state brand."

More than 60 iconic South Australian businesses were involved in creating the campaign, including Beerenberg, Haigh’s Chocolates, Fleurieu Milk, Port Elliot Bakery, Joe’s Henley Beach, along with the Adelaide and Port Adelaide football clubs.

Run by the re-established Brand SA, the campaign will feature ads across TV, radio, print, digital, cinema and outdoor displays, raising awareness of South Australia’s owned and grown produce.

Brand SA Board Chair Jane Jeffreys AM said the organisation was proud to launch the campaign to support South Australia's producers and businesses.

"This is Brand SA’s first major campaign since its return last year and is a great opportunity to remind South Australians that by purchasing the quality produce and products made right here in SA, they will be contributing to the good of the state," she said.

South Australian businesses are encouraged to download the new campaign assets at BuySA.sa.gov.au and register to use the State Brand, free of charge, at brand.sa.gov.au.
