Work has started on the Hutt St development, which will house 24 long-term rental apartments that will be available to eligible women on low-to-moderate incomes who have been priced out of the private market.

The complex is the first in South Australia to be developed by women's housing support service YWCA Australia and is backed by the South Australian Housing Authority. It has received a $5 million no-interest loan from the South Australian Government.

Due for completion in 2025, the complex will have a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Residents will also have access to a range of relevant support services.

"This development will provide safe, stable, affordable, long-term housing for 24 women, including mothers with children, who have experienced family and domestic violence and provide a foundation to heal," Ms Dillon said.

SA Housing Trust Presiding Member Mary Patetsos said it was important for at-risk women to have access to housing like the Hutt St development (artist impression pictured left).

"It is so important that women and children at risk of homelessness have access to appropriate facilities like these, providing a safe and secure tenure with appropriate supports in place," Ms Patetsos said.

"The Authority and its partners through the Homelessness and Domestic and Family Violence Alliances are committed to working with YWCA to secure sustainable pathways for women into affordable and safe housing."
