A six-storey development designed to support women rebuild their lives in a secure and connected environment has opened in Adelaide.
Tucker Street was delivered by the SA Housing Trust and features 50 modern studio apartments, each with a modern bathroom, kitchen, internal laundry, private balcony, energy-efficient appliances and an on-site bike space.
Constructed by local builder Mossop Group Pty Ltd, the apartments will be managed by the Housing Trust, with on-site support services provided by YWCA Australia - a not-for-profit organisation with more than 140 years’ experience supporting women and families.
The complex includes five accessible studio apartments for tenants with mobility issues, along with a range of shared spaces to support wellbeing and community connection.
YWCA’s on-site Community Engagement Officer and a Service Delivery Caseworker will help tenants establish housing stability and successfully manage their tenancies, as well as engage with in-reach community and health services.
Jaylee Cooper, Manager of Philanthropy and Engagement at Catherine House, welcomed the development.
"At Catherine House, we welcome any new initiatives that create safe, stable housing and support for women at risk of homelessness," she said.
"We particularly acknowledge the importance of women‑only housing developments, as women are now the fastest‑growing cohort experiencing homelessness.
"We look forward to referring our clients to Tucker Street as they continue their journey out of homelessness."
The Tucker Street development forms part of a broader effort to expand public housing across the state.
