Every purchase of a Koala State number plate, which are available from Monday 24 July, includes a $50 donation to help local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisations care for injured and orphaned native animals.
More than 700 volunteers dedicate their time and resources each year, to help rehabilitate about 4000 injured and distressed animals so they can be returned to the wild.
Wildlife United SA and Save Our Wildlife Inc Chair Marian MacLucas said funds raised would support all species, not just koalas.
"Wildlife carers sacrifice their time and money to look after our wildlife, often working around the clock to provide feeds, they are amazing selfless human beings providing a 24/7 service free to the community of South Australia," she said.
The number plates cost $151, inclusive of a $70 plate fee, $50 donation and a $31 reallocation fee for already registered SA vehicles.
Koala State number plates are regular sized and issued between KLA000 and KLZ999.
