Adelaide Football Club's $100 million plan to move its headquarters to Thebarton Oval has been given a $15 million boost from the State Government.
The funding - which matches $15 million from the Federal Government - will help create new world-class training facilities at the Meyer St ground for the Crows AFL, AFLW and SANFL teams, along with a new administration and community facility.
It will also become the new home for Crows AFLW games.
The community will be free to use the precinct outside of designated match and training times, with the Crows required to publish the oval's public opening times on its website.
A further $10 million will be invested by the State Government to improve open, green community space and amenities in and around the area, along with infrastructure works impacted by the North-South Corridor project.
Adelaide Football Club President John Olsen said the Thebarton precinct would serve as a long-term home for the club’s teams, academies and fan base.
“It can deliver win-win outcomes for all parties, including more open green space for the public,” Mr Olsen said.
“This funding is also crucial to fulfilling our ambition of delivering high performance advantages for our elite players and coaches, along with creating a leading sports and community precinct that is appealing to our loyal and passionate members and supporters.”
The development, which will see no net tree loss within the precinct, is still subject to a second round of community consultation and development approvals.
Local resident Emma Dawes from the Thebarton 5031Community Facilities and Green Spaces Action Group said preserving community access to the precinct and neighbouring Kings Reserve was an important step forward.
“This is a significant step forwards towards a precinct that can service the needs of the Crows and continue to meet those of the inner west community,” Dr Dawes said.
In August 2022, the Adelaide Crows first announced its plan to establish their new club headquarters at Thebarton Oval by 2025, moving from their current West Lakes facilities.
