Motorists big winners following intersection upgrades

Two major intersections in Adelaide's east are now up and running following major upgrades, helping traffic flow and reducing commute times for motorists.

Major construction work is substantially complete at the intersection of Glen Osmond and Fullarton roads, with all lanes open to traffic.

The work involved widening Fullarton Rd to provide an additional third dedicated through-traffic lane on each side through the intersection.

Glen Osmond Rd was also widened to provide an additional second dedicated right-turn lane onto Fullarton Rd for northbound traffic, and delivered a longer right-turn lane for traffic turning onto Fullarton Rd travelling southbound.

The right-turn lane on Fullarton Rd into Glen Osmond Rd heading towards the city was removed and traffic signals were installed at the junction of Glen Osmond Rd and the realigned Main Ave.

The Australian and South Australian governments jointly committed $35 million to the upgrade, with each contributing $17.5 million.

Meanwhile, further down Fullarton Rd motorists are benefiting from a major upgrade of its intersection with Cross Rd (pictured below).Cross Road

The work included widening both Cross and Fullarton roads and installing dedicated right-turn lanes with three through lanes on all approaches.

Also constructed were a dedicated left slip lane (northbound onto Fullarton Rd and westbound onto Cross Rd) and dual left-turning lanes into Fullarton Rd, southbound.

A shared through and left-turn lane onto Cross Rd travelling eastbound was also installed.

Work to reconstruct the Urrbrae Gatehouse - which is being relocated from the intersection to its new location within the Waite Arboretum - continues, with construction expected to be complete in early 2024.
