Plans to upgrade the Richmond Road, Railway Terrace and Croydon Road intersection have been unveiled as part of the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project which will make it easier to travel between the city and South Rd.
Around 36,000 vehicles currently pass through the intersection each day, making it a key connection for commuters, local businesses and visitors heading to destinations including the Mile End Homemaker Centre, SA Athletics Stadium and Netball SA Stadium.
The more than $70 million upgrade will include additional through and turning lanes, new bicycle lanes, upgraded pedestrian crossings, improved traffic signals and new LED lighting to help keep everyone moving safely.
Richmond Road will also be widened to provide two lanes in each direction, while improvements along Railway Terrace will help reduce congestion and make turning movements more efficient.
Early works will begin later this month, with major construction expected to start in the second half of 2027 and be completed by the end of 2028.
The project is expected to support 145 jobs during construction and forms part of the $850 million Broader Network Upgrades package within the T2D project.
The intersection upgrade joins a series of improvements already delivered across Adelaide's road network, including upgrades at Grange and Holbrooks Roads, James Congdon Drive and Raglan Avenue, helping prepare the city for the delivery of a non-stop South Road by 2031.
