Landmarks light up yellow for National Road Safety Week

Prominent landmarks across the state are being illuminated yellow to mark the 2024 National Road Safety Week.

The display, which runs until Sunday 12 May, aims to spark a conversation about safety and respect for all road users and serve as a poignant reminder of lives lost on SA roads.

Landmarks to be lit up include the Riverbank Bridge, O-Bahn tunnel, Entertainment Centre, Convention Centre and Parliament House. Regionally, Tasman Terrace in Port Lincoln will shine yellow, along with the Kadina Town Hall and 'Elemental' sculpture in Victor Harbor.

The theme of this year’s National Road Safety Week is ‘As all road safety is local, drive so others survive’ – a reminder to take extra care, including around vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, so that everyone arrives home safely.

South Australians can play their part by taking the National Road Safety Week pledge, promising to drive as if your loved ones are on the road ahead, remove distractions like mobile phones, and avoid speeding and driving while tired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

So far this year, 33 lives have been lost on SA roads. In 2023, 117 lives were lost and 856 people suffered serious injuries on our roads.

The State Government is investing more than $250 million over five years to make South Australian roads safer.
