Oliver has – for the 13th year in a row – topped the most popular boys name list in South Australia.
According to Births, Deaths and Marriages the name - which means either “olive tree” or “ancestor’s legacy”, depending on which sources you trust – came in at Number 1 with 122 boys being registered with the name in SA in 2025.
Noah was the second-most popular boys name, with 108 registrations, while Henry (105), Leo (97), Theodore (94), Levi (77), Luca (76), Charlie (75), Elijah (75), Jack (70) and Oscar (70) rounded out the list.
On the girls' side Charlotte held on to the top spot, with 95 baby girls receiving the name in 2025, with Isla (93) moving up to pass Olivia (76) and take out second spot.
The list was rounded out by Harper (69), Hazel (69), Amelia (68), Elsie (66), Violet (66), Lily (61), Daisy (59) and Ruby (59).
The state’s largest maternity hospital – the Women’s and Children’s – has pulled together its own list of 2025’s most popular names.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Oliver topped the boys’ list at the WCH, but Charlotte had to make to do with Number 3 position, behind Hazel and Isla.
After Oliver, the boys’ list was made up of Charlie, Theodore, Leo, William, Noah, Oscar, Muhammed, Henry and Alexander, while the girls’ list featured Olivia, Grace, Ruby, Violet, Penelope, Zoe and Eleanor.
South Australians have 60 days to register the names of their newborns with Births, Deaths and Marriages and the final list of the top 100 names will be published online early this year.
