Shoot to thrill: SA embraces new race format, AC/DC concert

Repco Supercars 2025 champion Chaz Mostert celebrates his victory.

Chaz Mostert held the cup aloft, Angus Young delivered the iconic riffs, and a record Sunday crowd of more than 102,000 fans watched it all unfold as the bp Adelaide Grand Final ushered in a new era of Supercar racing.

The hugely successful day was topped off with the news that the city had been locked in as the home of the new Grand Final format until 2034, and that the event has been named the prestigious Supercars Best Event of the Year for 2025.

This was the fourth consecutive time the event has won the award.

Hailed by late motorsport legend Murray Walker as "the best touring car event in the world", this year's Adelaide race delivacdcered a $72.6 million economic benefit to South Australia in 2024.

That figure is likely to be eclipsed by this year’s event, with overall event attendance for the bp Adelaide Grand Final coming in at 285,700, significantly higher than last year’s 259,400.

This year’s race concerts saw two legendary rock acts – Lenny Kravitz on Saturday night and AC/DC on Sunday night – entertain huge crowds.

Kravitz delivered a set full of hits, including Are You Gonna Go My Way, Always On The Run, American Woman and It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over, while AC/DC dug into a back catalogue spanning more than half a century to give fans favourites like Back In Black, Thunderstruck, Hells Bells, Jailbreak and TNT.

Supercars CEO James Warburton said that nothing matched "the atmosphere, the history and the sheer excitement of racing through the streets of Adelaide".

"Securing this event until 2034 ensures fans and teams can look forward to an incredible finale for years to come," Mr Warburton said.

"It’s a testament to the strength of our sport and the unwavering support of the South Australian Government."

Adelaide Grand Final Chief Executive Mark Warren said the announcement locked in "unforgettable racing and entertainment for fans".

"We’re not just preserving history – we’re creating an even bigger future," he said.
