The Heights Technical College, set to open 2026, will offer aero skills as one of its key pathways, helping young people gain entry level roles in the defence industry.

Aero skills is an important component of the state's defence sector, however currently there are limited opportunities to gain vocational qualifications in the field.

The specialised skills and knowledge gained will allow graduates to maintain aircraft to keep planes flying safely.

The college, which will be co-located with The Heights School, will offer an entry level pathway including the Certificate II in Aeroskills, leading to apprenticeships that will help build South Australia's aero skills sector.Heights college

The Heights, set to open in 2026, will support students in years 10 to 12 to complete their SACE while undertaking vocational education and training in specialist facilities.

As well as aero skills, the college will offer:

  • advanced manufacturing and engineering
  • building and construction
  • early childhood and education.

Group Captain Martin Ball, Strategic Contracting - RAAF Edinburgh, said: "This will be an exciting opportunity to build clear pathways to meet the workforce demands that are being experienced to support defence aircraft maintenance requirements."

The Heights is one of five technical colleges being built as part of a $208.8 million state government commitment focused on providing students with the skills needed to work in areas of key industry demand.

The first of these - Findon Technical College - opened at Findon High School at the start of 2024.
