The new state-of-the-art $2.57 million koala enclosure will be temperature controlled to allow visitors to interact with some of the park's friendliest creatures in the one location, all year round.

Previously, koalas had to be transported to different spots around the park dependent on the weather.

Construction of the new loft is already underway and is be expected to be completed by late 2024. Image of the new Cleland Wildlife Park koala loft

Once open, the new enclosure will help cement Cleland's reputation as one of South Australia’s most popular wildlife parks.

Cleland Wildlife Park General Manager Michelle Hocking said the park played an important role in allowing visitors to connect with nature and wildlife.

“The world-class upgrade will provide us an opportunity to showcase the conservation efforts being undertaken at Cleland while allowing visitors to observe the koalas up close,” Ms Hocking said.

“The new loft will allow us to continue providing an immersive nature experience where visitors can engage with our iconic koalas and learn about the importance of conservation.”

Cleland Wildlife Park was established in 1967 and for more than 50 years has been much loved by visitors as a site to experience native wildlife.

During the construction period there will be some temporary changes to visitor experiences, however visitors will still be able to have a close encounter, interact and observe the koalas, with daily educational talks to continue.
