Hear from inspiring South Aussies at Government House

Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, will engage with high-profile South Australians at Government House, as part of the Winter Conversation Series.

The public is invited to attend the free hour-long sessions, to be held on the fourth Friday of June, July and August, and to pose questions to Her Excellency and her guests.

Topics to be discussed include mental health, leadership, women's advancement and recognition of outstanding community service.

The first conversation, on Friday 23 June, focused on the Order of Australia and featured Australian Honour recipients Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington AO and Paralympic gold medallist Darren Hicks OAM.

Professor Hughes-Warrington is a globally recognised philosopher and historian whose work seeks to explain why histories and historical thinking play an important role in making a good, fair and just world.

Mr Hicks, who grew up as a devoted BMX rider, lost his leg in road accident in 2014. Following a lengthy recovery, he decided to try track cycling and went on to become a two-time World Champion in 2019 and then won gold and silver medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The second session, on mental health and body image, will be held on Friday 28 July. The guests will be 2023 Australian of the Year Taryn Brumfitt and Breakthrough Mental Health Foundation Chief Executive Officer John Mannion.

Former Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon Julia Guillard AC, will be the series' final guest, joining Her Excellency in a conversation about women's advancement on Friday 25 August.

Her Excellency said hosting the Winter Conversation Series was a "privilige".

“Highlighting the achievements of South Australians, and drawing attention to issues that help create a strong community and a strong South Australia, is one of the privileges of my role,” Her Excellency said.

“Our speakers include thought leaders and high‑achievers whose research, accomplishments and advocacy contribute to the success of South Australia and to the people of our state.

“It is a privilege to provide a platform for these engaging and influential South Australians to share their experiences and ideas.”

You must book to attend a conversation, with bookings open three weeks ahead of each session.

Registrations are now open for the June Winter Conversation Series.

Bookings for the July session will open at 10am on Monday, 26 June, and bookings for the August session will open on 10am on Monday, 31 July.
