Government House open for Lunch on the Lawns

Government House's popular Lunch on the Lawns events are continuing into the new year, with the public invited to grab a picnic enjoy lunch in the property's picturesque grounds, while being entertained by a community band or orchestra.

The Lunch on the Lawn events are held on the first Friday of the month from noon-2pm and will run until Friday 3 May.

To enjoy your lunch on the Government House lawn, all you need to do is enter through the main gates and choose your picnic spot.

Lunch on the Lawns is part of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC's and her husband Mr Rod Bunten’s aim to make Government House a place where South Australians feel welcome and are able to visit.

The Governor attends the events when possible, to speak with visitors and welcome people to the grounds. She is often joined by Mr Bunten and their dog, Alfie.

Free garden tours of the Government House grounds are also available, hosted by Friends of the Botanic Gardens. Tours run on the same dates as Lunch on the Lawns, from 10.45am-11.45am. Registrations are required for these tours by emailing governors.office@sa.gov.au with a list of the names of all attendees and a contact number.

People on the tours will be able to learn how the Government House garden has developed over time, find out which is its oldest tree, and get up close with the statues and sculptures.

There's also a chance to touch plants in the sensory garden, visit the Governor's Rose Garden which has a dedicated rose plant for each Governor in the history of the state, and investigate what's in season in the vegetable gardens.
