What’s on in Adelaide these October school holidays


Enjoy a family adventure or enrol the children in a workshop – either way, there is something for everyone in our handy guide to what's on these school holidays, which run from Saturday 30 September to Sunday 15 October.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens

Head to the heart of the city for school holiday events at the Adelaide Botanic Garden. Join Tinkerbell and the dream fairies for an exciting musical adventure or get your hands dirty with a paper pots and seeds workshop.

Carrick Hill

Explore the historic grounds and gardens of Carrick Hill, set in a 100-acre estate in the Adelaide foothills. Along with the mainstay Story Book Trail, Carrick Hill is hosting other events including a floral exhibition, a seed planting children’s workshop and terrarium workshop.

Nature Festival of SA

With more than 300 events across South Australia, Nature Festival of SA is a must visit for all. Held from 1-15 October, the festival highlights all the best ways to connect with nature across our great state. Check out the range of free and paid events by exploring their program.

Art Gallery of SA

Enjoy a free day of family fun with art activities, tours and live performances at Start at the Gallery: Nest on Sunday, 1 October from 11am-3pm. Take part in workshops, a bubble extravaganza, yoga, music and an inflatable wonderland.

State Library of South Australia

Located on North Terrace, South Australia’s State Library is hosting a range of school holiday events for little ones, including a paper lantern making workshop, storytelling sessions, a Lego exhibition and art book club.

South Australian Museum

School holidays wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the South Australian Museum. This October’s program includes a colourful and creative workshop – Winging it at the Museum – exploring the science of birds. Bookings required.

Australian Space Discovery Centre

Explore the solar system, design rockets or learn about the best way to grow plants in space at the Australian Space Discovery Centre. They have a full school holiday program full of free and fun events for all ages. Bookings required.

Cleland Wildlife Park

Cleland Wildlife Park has options for kids to join supervised day programs or for families to explore the park together these school holidays. Spring is such as exciting time to visit the park, when the animals are more active and there are lots of baby animals starting to appear. And the best bit is you can get up close, immerse yourself in nature and connect with some of our most well known and loved animals, all within 25 min of the Adelaide CBD.
