Gather Round kicks goals with entertainment options

April’s Gather Round doesn’t just bring every AFL team to South Australia, it also brings the biggest and best footy-themed entertainment.

The Gather Round Spectacular, hosted by Eddie McGuire, will be live at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 2 April, while panel show The Front Bar – with Mick Molloy, Andy Maher and Sam Pang – will return to Adelaide Oval the following night.

AFL royalty will take to the stage at the Entertainment Centre, joined by young guns of the game along with Channel 9 footy favourites Billy Brownless, Nathan Brown, Tony “TJ” Jones, Kane Cornes and Jimmy Bartel.

And in huge news for music fans, the night will kick off with a special live performance from multi-award-winning star Delta Goodrem, who will perform her hits as well as her new single, Hearts on the Run.

“I’m so excited to come back to Adelaide and celebrate such a great round of footy,” Goodrem said.

“I spent so many weekends in SA cheering for my brother (three-times Bulldogs premiership player) Trent when he played in the SANFL, and I can’t wait to pump everyone up for the Gather Round."

Guests will get the latest breaking news ahead of Round 4 and find out which teams are tipped to come out on top as the live panels preview all nine Gather Round games being played in Adelaide.

Going on the road for the second consecutive year, The Front Bar's resident patrons Maher, Molloy and Pang (pictured below) will kickstartfrontbar happy hour live from Adelaide Oval on Wednesday 3 April to open Seven’s Gather Round coverage.

For Molloy it's a case of too much footy being not enough.

“I loved Gather Round last year, but can I just say one thing: not enough football," the comedian said.

"I had nothing to do on Friday afternoon. Surely, we can fit 18 games in this time.”

The football-themed shows will add to the carnival atmosphere of the Gather Round, which will also feature the free Gather Live concert with Yolngu rapper Baker Boy and Australian rockers Jet playing outside Adelaide Oval on April 7.

“I'm pumped to be back performing at the AFL for the first Gather Live concert this April in Tarntanya (Adelaide),” Baker Boy said.

“I can't wait to hit the stage and maybe even catch a game or two. I love the idea and energy of everyone coming together for one round, it's going to be huge.”

Other highlights over the four-day festival of footy will be two matches at Mount Barker which will showcase the best of Adelaide Hills food and wine, a Saturday double-header at Adelaide Oval, and two matches at Norwood Oval.

The popular Food and Wine Festival on The Parade will also return on the Sunday (April 7), along with the family-friendly free Footy Festival at Elder Park which will include screening of all the matches, food trucks and interactive games and activities.
